EnviroBlend®

What is EnviroBlend®?

metal stabilization products

EnviroBlend® is Custom-Blended Treatment Chemicals for Rendering Wastes Non-Hazardous.

Not a single chemistry, but rather a full-line of metal stabilization products, EnviroBlend® was initially developed as a specific treatment for lead. Since that initial formulation, the innovative family of chemistries has grown to successfully treat metals such as cadmium, zinc, hexavalent, chromium, arsenic, selenium, and industrial acid gas emissions in a varied range of waste matrixes.

This unique and innovative metals treatment technology was developed in the 1980's, primarily ferrous foundries, for management of their hazardous waste stream. Other solution providers at the time concentrated on lime-based additives or cement treatment systems that would pass leaching tests, but fell short in terms of creating long-term stabilization of waste material, particularly because lime-based products can drive pH levels too high, causing leaching over time. For more information why high alkaline, lime-based, and cement materials raise pH levels to de-stabilize heavy metal wastes click here.

How Does EnviroBlend® Work?

EnviroBlend® uses a buffering agent that regulates pH levels at 10.5 or lower, effectively stabilizing metals in question, and reducing hazardous environmental leaching. The specific treatment chemistry recommended is based on the nature of the waste, the heavy metals in question, and the regulatory standards required to be met, (i.e. TCLP, SPLP, MEP). The EnviroBlend® Team will provide individualized treatability studies on client waste streams to determine the most "cost-effective" blend and dosage rate, along with superior technical support and laboratory services. Where is EnviroBlend® Used?

Industrial Applications

EnviroBlend® can be mixed with a process stream to stabilize heavy metals, generally BEFORE hazardous waste is generated. Consequently, the process is typically exempt from costs and time associated with RCRA permitting, and the resulting material can be disposed at a non-hazardous waste landfill. The products range from blends that treat heavy metals such as lead and cadmium in bag-house waste, to more complex blends that neutralize acid gas stack emissions. EnviroBlend® continues to be a leader in the treatment of heavy metal contaminated waste in:

  • Foundry Operations (i.e. iron, steel, aluminum, brass, copper)
  • Slag Treatment/Slag Disposal sites
  • Battery Manufacturing and Recycling Facilities
  • Primary and Secondary Smelting Operations
  • Scrap Processing and Recycling Facilities (TSDF)
  • Incinerator Ash Stabilization

Remedial Applications

EnviroBlend® treated material has been approved to be left on site, eliminating expensive disposal fees. The use of the treatment chemistries has been approved the EPA/DEP on hundreds of projects across the United States and internationally. Remedial applications for heavy metals stabilization include but are not limited to:

  • Federal and State Superfund Sites
  • Lead Paint Abatement Projects
  • Shooting Ranges
  • State Cleanups
  • Mine Tailings and Leachate Treatment
  • RCRA Soil/Sludge Cleanup Actions

Advantages of EnviroBlend®!

Cost-Effective. Low dosage rates. EnviroBlend® requires less treatment chemical, which reduces bulking and results in lower disposal cost and transactional cost and time associated with RCRA permitting.

Friendly to the Environment. Reduced leaching in all reasonable environments. In most cases, treated material can remain on-site. Stabilized materials consistently pass the USEPA's Multiple Extraction Procedure (MEP), which was designed to simulate 1000 years of leaching.

Widely Accepted. EnviroBlend® has been widely accepted by regulatory agencies. EnviroBlend® is routinely accepted by the USEPA and state agencies as a viable treatment method!

Proven Results. Read about EnviroBlend® performance examples here.
