Industrial Abrasive

Hess Pumice

IGC Technologies, LLC is proud to partner with Hess Pumice Products located in southeastern Idaho; a mining operation and processing facility specializing in the extraction and refining of high quality pumice. The pumice is favored by nature with a vast reserve of pumice as high a quality as any available on earth and is dedicated to the highest standards of refinement, accuracy of grading and quality control.

Hess Pumice is a volcanic rock containing 71 percent silica, 13 percent alumina, and small amounts of calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc. Its structure is a volcanic glass froth composed of a mass of silky interlocking fibers filled with tiny air bubbles. The resulting aggregate has many properties, which make it highly desirable for construction, technical and industrial applications.

Abrasives

Pumice is easily pulverized and, when ground, its friable particles fracture and continue to present sharp edges, making it and ideal material for use as a mild abrasive. Pumice is used extensively for the precision finishing of glass, metal, wood and plastics, and as an abrasive in soaps, tumbling media, erasers, dental and other polishing compounds. Pumice is also used to stone-wash denim!

Concrete

Pumice concrete has several advantages over conventional concrete in many construction applications. Most significant is its lightweight quality. This trait contributes to a decrease in structural steel costs and consequently, job costs. Larger volumes of concrete can be handled by lighter equipment with less wear and tear on the equipment. Another key factor is workability, particularly in sawing and drilling. Finally, pumice concrete has superior resistance to harsh weather conditions like freezing and thawing. This, plus its high R-value, makes pumice concrete suitable for colder climates and dramatic changes in weather.

Soil Conditioners

Because it is highly porous, pumice holds water and air. Pumice is used as a soil conditioner in potting media and to aerate golf greens. Advantageously, pumice is inorganic, and will not decompose or burn.

Partnering with Hess Pumice Products as a stocking distributor, the goal of IGC Technologies, LLC is to ship top quality product - and ship it on time! We maintain a stock of most standard grades and can normally ship orders from stock to reduce customer lead times. Your assurance of clean dry pumice is guaranteed due to multi-wall paper bags. Bulk bags are also available. Palletized and stretch-wrapped, each package of pumice is labeled with the grade, weight and lot number bar-coded. This information is repeated on the exterior of the pallet for easy identification.
